MarinaChain Presents Vision for Maritime Blockchain and Fractional Vessel Investment in KBS News Interview

MarinaChain highlighted its vision for maritime blockchain, fractional vessel investment, and AI-driven carbon management during a KBS News interview at Blockchain Week in Busan.

MarinaChain CEO Seong-yeop Ha held an interview with KBS News regarding the expansion of blockchain technology in the maritime industry.

Amid growing interest in fractional investments for high-priced artwork and real estate, the potential for fractional investment in ships—which require massive capital—is also drawing attention. This topic was covered in detail at the 'Blockchain Week in Busan (BWB)' event held in Busan.

Building a medium-to-large container ship takes about two years. While ship construction requires immense capital, 60% of the payment is received upon actual delivery. As a result, mid-sized shipbuilders in the Busan region can ironically face liquidity crunches even as their order books grow.

If fractional investment is introduced to ship finance—where individual investment was previously difficult—shipyards can secure funds in advance and build vessels stably. This is made possible by leveraging blockchain technology to share and trade ownership stakes in ships.

In addition, blockchain technology has brought innovative improvements to carbon emissions management in the shipping industry. By organizing and managing vessel operation data through blockchain-based big data, real-time monitoring of ship carbon emissions becomes possible. Furthermore, if carbon emissions fall below standard limits, the corresponding carbon credits can be traded in the market.

In the interview, CEO Seong-yeop Ha stated, "Since Busan is home to many shipping companies and located right by the sea, combining relevant maritime data with blockchain technology will generate even greater synergy."

Various application cases of blockchain technology were showcased at 'Blockchain Week in Busan' held at BEXCO, Busan. Attention is focused on the transformative changes blockchain technology will bring to the shipbuilding and maritime industries.
