Marina Chain Provides Consulting for KSS Line’s Purchase of Voluntary Carbon Credits

Demonstrated Maritime ESG Leadership by Providing Carbon Emission Calculation and Voluntary Carbon Credit Sourcing Consulting for KSS Line

KSS Line announced on the 20th that it became the first Korean shipping company to purchase 'voluntary carbon credits' at the pre-naming ceremony event held on the 13th for its new methanol-powered vessel, 'SAVONETTA SUN.'

On that day, an event was held for all attendees to calculate the carbon dioxide emissions generated during their travel time to the venue and purchase carbon credits equivalent to that total amount.

The funds used to purchase the carbon credits will be directed, through MarinaChain Pte. Ltd.—a Singapore-based ESG big data consulting firm—to support a coastal conservation project in Guatemala currently struggling with sea level rise.

Under its corporate mission to "create a society where everyone prospers together through eco-friendliness and customer value creation," KSS Line is striving to reduce carbon emissions with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Internally, KSS Line orders new vessels capable of using eco-friendly fuels such as LPG and methanol. Externally, it actively participates in building an eco-friendly shipping ecosystem by signing industry-academia-research-government business agreements with local governments, related agencies, and maritime educational institutions.

An official from KSS Line stated, "As a global energy transport company, we plan to leverage ESG as a new competitive edge for our firm," adding, "Accordingly, we will continue to further solidify our ESG management framework to establish eco-friendly and sustainable management."
