Marina Chain Partners with DNV to Launch Real-Time Maritime Carbon Emission Monitoring System

Marina Chain Discusses Strategic Partnership with DNV at Singapore Maritime Week for Real-Time Maritime Carbon Emission Monitoring System

Digital ESG solution provider MarinaChain announced on the 29th that it held strategic talks with DNV, a world-leading Norwegian classification society, to build a real-time maritime carbon emission monitoring and automated feedback system.

MarinaChain and DNV met at the recent Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) to discuss concrete collaboration plans, focusing on a pilot run of a data-linked maritime carbon emission monitoring system and reviewing a payment structure tailored to the Korean shipping market.

MarinaChain introduced a system that automatically collects vessel operational and fuel data and generates compliance reports for major carbon regulations such as the EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime.

A representative from MarinaChain emphasized their automated model that lowers the barrier to regulatory compliance, stating, "You don't need to understand complex regulations. Marina Chain takes responsibility for the entire process, from data collection to report generation."

DNV proposed a system that links its digital platform, Veracity, with Marina Chain's system to receive daily data from vessels and provide same-day feedback. When DNV's data verification and daily feedback system via Veracity is applied, crew members can immediately correct operational data based on same-day feedback, which is expected to significantly improve the speed and accuracy of regulatory compliance.

Furthermore, DNV expressed its intent to expand into long-term technical cooperation after securing success stories through pre-trials and official pilot operations based on the Veracity platform.

MarinaChain pointed out the practical operational realities of many Korean flag carriers, which operate European routes flexibly without fixed itineraries, noting that the existing metric ton-based pricing model may have limitations in on-site application.

Accordingly, Marina Chain suggested the possibility of introducing a flexible, voyage-based payment method powered by its 'Voyage Ticketing System,' to which DNV responded positively.

Meanwhile, the collaboration between Marina Chain and DNV aims to build an actionable ESG framework that can be immediately implemented onboard beyond simple regulatory compliance. Both parties plan to continue practical technical cooperation by further specifying the scope of pilot operations and system integration methods moving forward.

Seong-yeop Ha, CEO of MarinaChain, stated, "ESG must evolve beyond simple report submission into an execution framework that is immediately reflected in the field. Through this collaboration, we will present a digital ESG system that meets global standards and provide a total solution that fully supports compliance with complex regulations such as FuelEU Maritime and the EU Carbon Tax.
